When I start formulating an idea for a photoshoot its generally based on something that the whole shoot is built around. Sometimes thats a person, an item of clothing, a prop. Usually its one thing that sparks the chain of events that lead to finished product. In this case I have been given a range of makeup products to trial, review and use in a shoot. Its like a Masterchef Mystery Box challenge haha, how will I use the different products?
Since my last post I have been thinking about these products and what I keep going back too, what I keep focusing on is the colours of the glitter tubs and the artistic pigments. Turquoises and purples...instant thought mermaids but I'm not happy yet with just doing a mermaid shoot, it has to be something even more amazing, a little more involved (and trust me I love mermaids, I have a mermaid tattoo hehe) I can't quite explain what I mean! So today I decided to get out all of the products play with them and test them out.
The first things I wanted to try were the glitters and the artistic pigments.
These are Anikka Maya Cosmetics glitter - Magic Purple and aqua blue and Facefront Artistic pigment in Aqua marina (steel finish) and Xenon Zephyr (Steel Finish).
THE ARTISTIC PIGMENTS ARE AMAZING AND WHAT I WANT TO CENTRE THE SHOOT AROUND. Sorry I just had to yell that haha, you can't tell from the photo (its just a quick phone snap and I didn't use much at all because I didn't want to waste it - I want to make sure we have plenty for the photoshoot!) but the colours of all of them are really getting the creative juices flowing and I think I am going to stick with a sea theme - but my brain is thinking some sort of elaborate fantastic sea creature - I have been wanting to make elaborate head pieces for a long time now and I think I need to start designing something for this shoot.
Next I tried on the nail polish FLIRT! in Tingling Fruit and Groupie. Clearly by these photos I am no expert at applying nail polish - but would you believe these are only 1 coat (and admittedly I applied it pretty quick). Loving the Groupie (a dark glittery blue) for this shoot and thinking my sea creature will need long nails similiar to my Ice Queen shoot
Ice Queen. Model: Harmony Nicholas. MUA/Hair/Styling: Aaron Crocker. Photography/post/concept: Julia Thomas.
Next the lips - Beauty treats Velour Gloss in 04 (pink) and 06 (red). We just tried out the red today because who can't go past a good red. My daughter walked in on me trying it on and couldn't resist trying some herself.
The challenge will be incorporating these with my initial sea creature idea. I might cheat and check out the Brigettes Boutique website and see if they have a more sea creaturey colour haha. This red though is heaven, my daughter is already making plans to sneak off with it!
Thats all I have for you today. Time to fine tune my concept and getting to work making head pieces and prop!
